Design and conception

Like its predecessors, it retains the same rectangular design with rounded edges that looks like an Apple Watch. On the right side, there is a stainless steel digital crown. Its role is to unlock the watch, return to the previous menu, scroll up and down.
On the back, the Amazfit Bip S has charging pins associated with an optical heart rate sensor. The main module of the Amazfit Bip S is composed by fusing two shades of polycarbonate to evoke an expressive appearance.
This connected watch comes with removable straps with a width of 20 mm and an adjustable length of 85 to 110 mm. They are made of silicone or TPU depending on the color version you purchase. The black version comes with TPU straps while the gray, pink, and orange models have silicone straps.
Display

The Amazfit Bip S connected watch has a 1.28-inch screen with a resolution of 176 x 176 pixels. As a result, it can only display 64 colors. The screen is made of Gorilla glass, coated with an anti-fingerprint.
The Amazfit Bip S uses transflective display technology. This feature helps preserve battery life and improve outdoor visibility. This is because the brighter the sunlight, the clearer the display.
During the test, the image quality was not good enough. There was some pixelation and after a few weeks of use, the watch had an image retention problem.
Amazfit Bip S: notifications
You can also receive notifications from your smartphone applications on the connected watch. However, they are not interactive. In fact, you can reject or deactivate incoming calls, but you can’t answer them.
The Amazfit Bip S displays a maximum of 10 notifications at a time, with the content displayed on three pages. The smartwatch also displays the corresponding app icons with the notifications, but this does not work with all apps.
Also, you cannot delete a new notification when it appears on the screen. It cannot be ignored and you have to go to the notification center to delete it with a swipe to the left.
Amazfit Bip S: The app

You need the Amazfit app to pair the watch with your Android or iOS device. When you launch the app, you can see the “Enjoy” tab at the bottom.
This tab contains many settings such as setting an alarm; tracking friends; setting step, weight, calorie and sleep goals; changing the watch face and adjusting incoming call notification settings.
In the “Profile” tab, you can check your goal set and battery life; view records; add counts; and switch between imperial and metric units.
Amazfit Bip S: Heart rate tracking
The heart rate tracking has been improved. Thanks to the PPG Bio-Tracking optical sensor, the watch’s heart rate accuracy is improved by up to 98% with 1/5 less power consumption. You can measure your heart rate manually or set it to be measured automatically by the Amazfit Bip S. The smartwatch can send you a notification as soon as your heart rate exceeds the normal threshold.
Amazfit Bip S : Sleep tracking
The sleep tracking on the Amazfit Bip S is quite accurate. The results are presented in the Amazfit app in graphical form with the time of sleep and wake-up, as well as the amount of deep sleep, light sleep and wakefulness time.
Amazfit’s sleep assistant gives you a sleep score every time you wake up. This way, you can know the quality of your sleep. It also gives you tips to improve your sleep.
Amazfit Bip S: Fitness Tracking
The 2018 Amazfit Bip had all the basics of fitness tracking. However, this new version puts the emphasis back on adding more training and better metrics.
For example, the Amazfit Bip S contains 10 sports modes, which include outdoor running, walking, indoor and outdoor cycling, swimming, treadmill, freestyle, elliptical, yoga, and skipping.
The first four require a GPS connection. However, if you decide to continue without a GPS lock, the watch will monitor your workout, display all the details on the screen, but the session will not be recorded.
The Amazfit Bip S also has an automatic step counter. However, the result is not quite accurate, it records a few extra steps.
Battery life
The biggest advantage of the Amazfit Bip S is the battery life. It has a 190 mAh battery. Huami claims a battery life of 40 days with basic use, 15 days in typical use, 90 days in standby mode, and 22 hours with GPS.
In fact, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with notifications enabled, continuous heart rate monitoring, 60% brightness, and GPS activity for 30 minutes, the battery life just dropped by 10%. And after 8 days of use, it’s still 44%.
Huami claims that the Amazfit Bip S connected watch takes 2.5 hours to fully charge. But during the test, it went from 0% to 100% in 1 hour and 56 minutes.
Amazfit Bip S: summary
The Amazfit Bip S isn’t perfect, but for the price, it’s a capable and functional connected watch. It’s lightweight, has excellent outdoor visibility, accurate built-in GPS, an accurate heart rate sensor, and offers good battery life.
Therefore, the Amazfit Bip S is the right connected watch for you if you are looking for reliable statistics and accurate GPS tracking for less than 70 USD .
